AFD

AFD
The Area Forecast Discussion is a National Weather Service Product available from each NWS Forecast Office. Generally, the AFD is published twice daily during routine weather periods. When active or dangerous weather conditions exist or are imminent, the Forecasters will publish more often,
as events require.

The AFD gives insights to the modeling and observations the forecast team employs to generate their local forecasts.

Regular use of the AFD allows the user to get a feel for the overall accuracy of each Forecast Office, and a better understanding of the style and biases of the Forecasters. I think regular AFD consumption is essential to understanding the local weather and local forecasts.

The AFD's from the NWS Offices I use are linked in the CorduroyPlanet Toolbox in the Sidebar.
